Approved FQpRelease 11R0001 00040015-0 MINUTES OF THE 10 AUGUST 1981 MEETING OF THE FINE ARTS COMMISSION 1. The meeting was called to order at 1100 hrs. in room 7D32, Headquarters. Present were: Members: Bruce T. Johnson. Chairman Representatives: 1. The minutes of the 13 July 1981 meeting were amended as follows: go up on 13 July and will be up until 10 September. The Hispanic exhibit will take place 14-21 Septem- ber, and the exhibit for Handicapped Week will be held the week of 19 October. The Employees' art exhibit will be held from 2 November through 11 December. reported that the medical exhibit will The minutes of the 13 July meeting were approved as amended. Old Business has received no reply from William Draper, the artist who painted the Directors' portraits, regard- ing possible causes of the deterioration of his paint- ings. Another request for information will be sent him has the name of a portrait painter (Lyn Buckham) who has painted the portraits of several well known people, including Admiral Raborn, Justice Blackman, and General Lowe. It was suggested that several members of FAC arrange to look at her work. Mr. Johnson will call Ms. Buckham to obtain information about the locations of the portraits she has painted. The planter boxes in the cafeteria have been moved to Building 213, allowing additional seating in the South Cafeteria to make way for those formerly seated in the Rendezvous Room in the balcony. The balcony of the South Cafeteria will be make into language labs. c. Mr. Johnson reported on a recent conversation with Mr. Melzac, who has discussed with a curator of the National Museum of American Art the possibility that their planned exhibit of paintings by Alma Thomas might subsequently be exhibited at CIA. The suggestion was well received by the NMAA official. d. Mr. Johnson reported that he had sent a memo to the Office of Personnel outlining possible exceptions to the recent HN on display of notices in the Headquarters building. 4. New Business b. I Committee. The Chairman, FAC, thanked her for her work. has expressed an interest in heading this committee. The Chairman has received a note from the Suggestion Award Committee regarding the proposed paving of the pathway from the southwest entrance to the south loading dock. Lack of resources prevents action and lack of action makes it difficult to justify an award to the person who sent in the suggestion that the pathway be paved. Blocking the path with fences or plants as an alternative was suggested in the note. The FAC will recommend against any barrier across the pathway and once again suggest a certificate of appreciation be given to the suggestor for his concern. Approved F-Release 20#09. lJ`4 FOA f. The condition of the courtyard near the north cafeteria was brought up. Due to the lack of water, the land- scaping in this area seems to be dying. Several suggestions for this area were made, including a rock garden and a cactus garden. stated that the Agency no longer has a resident landscaper but she would seek information about the types of planting which could survive the lack of water in summer and the cold of this area's winters. 5. There will be no FAC meeting in September. The next FAC meeting will be on 5 October at 1100 hrs. in room 7D32. 6.
