Approved For Rase 2005/08/22 : CIA-RDP87-0113ORY00100100020-7 2 6 NOV 1992 STAT MEMORANDUM FOR: Chief, Domestic Security Branch, PSD/OS F ROM: I ie , Headquarters Engineering Branch, RECD/OL SUBJECT: Increased Outdoor Lighting at Headquarters Facility STAT 1. This past August, our offices began to correspond concerning the problem of insufficient outdoor lighting at the Headquarters Compound. A recommended solution was to replace existing mercury vapor lights with sodium lights in order to create more intense continuous light while at the same time drawing less power. 2. The Headquarters Engineering Branch (HEB) consulted with General Electric to examine possible solutions and several. options were discussed with your office. It is re- commended that in insufficiently lit areas, existing 400 watt mercury vapor light fixtures be replaced with new 200 watt high-pressure sodium fixtures, adding arms and new fixtures to some existing one-armed standards, replacing existing floodlights with new high-pressure sodium floods, also adding new floodlights at the rotor pool and the powerhouse, and new standards at the GW Parkway entrance. It is estimated that this work will cost $245K in 1985 dollars: a breakdown per area is attached. 3. Per earlier discussion, there was a question about obtaining approval from the Agency Fine Arts Committee and the National Capital Planning Commission in order to change outdoor lighting to a sodium type. The Fine Arts Committee has reviewed the proposed scope of this project and has no objections. According to the charter of the National Capital Planning Commission, this project does not appear to be one requiring their review. 4.
