The opposition to the C corridor 1oc't.ion is not universal but it is clearly in the majority, and l am reluctant to approve in the name of the Commission in the absence of support from the membership, particularly in view of the fact that there is a reasonable alternative available . The F, corridor is a well-traveled artery, possibly better in that re=tard than the area where the board is now located, and it is close crouch to the bunch-time traffic flow to make for convenient stops on route to or from lunch to read the items posted. It would be necessary to retain the lights now used to il.lumi.nate the board, ctiven the relatively low level of corridor lichtinq, but in that respect it is no less desireable than IF. I hope that you will be able to accept the majority position taken by the PAC and relocate the board to the suiggested space in 1.t'. /a/ Bruce 3. Johnson TAT .^? After the foregoing was prepared, you and I had a telepphone conversation which covered the same gground. You indicated an interest in reducing the size of the bulletin board to allow it to fit on the wall adjacent to the fire extinguisher ?mentioned above. I have no objection to such a plan, but would like to have an opportunity to see how the changes would look be fore finally agreeing on behalf of the F AC. Wilson Chief, Public Affairs Division SUBJECT: Relocation of Public Affairs Bulletin Board 1. Public Affairs is preparing to relocate in the next month or two from its present location in rooms 1F06 and 1F12 to a new site in the 7B corridor. Part of the planning for this move involves relocating the Public Affairs news bulletin board from its position opposite 1F12 to a first floor position nearer the B corridor. This move will facil- itate daily upkeep of the board and will improve service by making the board more readily accessible to greater numbers of employees. 2. It is important to understand that the move of the Public Affairs Division is motivated by the DDA's desire to provide critical expansion room for Security's Polygraph Division. Harry Fitzwater is anxious that these moves be accomplished efficiently and soon. Consequently, he accom- panied me yesterday on an inspection tour of possible relocation sites for the bulletin board. 3. We determined that the ideal site is adjacent to the Agency Car Pool display in the "Credit Union Corridor." There, it would lend balance to the Car Pool board and map on an otherwise stark and rather large expanse of blank wall. Located in a commercial corridor, it would be available to a large segment of the Headquarters population without becoming a point of congestion. Although the board requires its own reading lights (especially in winter), the added natural light from the inner courtyard windows will enhance its use. Harry found the bulletin board to be attractive and well- maintained, appropriate to the proposed site. Logistically, the site is suitably close to the Blue elevators (entire panels will be posted and re- placed each day from the new Public Affairs location on the seventh floor). 4. An alternative site is the wall opposite lC48 and the Library's new-book display. We found this less desirable, however, because the corridor is darker and because undue congestion might occur during peak traffic hours to and from the South Cafeteria. Other sites in the general area are either too dark and/or too out-of-the-way for this highly popular display. I am aware that I Jhas already made the Fine Arts Commission aware of t is proposed relocation. This, however, is to give you additional background and rationale, and to offer to assist the Commission in any way we can. If the Public Affairs move is going to take place as soon as Harry seems to want it to, we are of course anxious to resolve this detail. Please call on me if I can be of any further help. Charles E.
