MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: Attempted Contact With House Judiciary Staff
1. Several times during the weeks of August 12th and 19th,
I attempted to call the office of Arthur P. Endres, Jr.,
Counsel, Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and
International Law, House Judiciary Committee, to set up a
meeting to discuss the Agency's defector citizenship
legislation. Each time the individual who answered the
telephone have indicated that Mr. Endres was not in the office
or was on leave. Each time I left a message for him to call me.
2. Finally, when I called on 20 August, the individual who
answered the telephone indicated that Mr. Endres was out of the
country and was not expected back in the office until
3 September 1985. Although the individual did not say so, I
believe it is possible that he is traveling as a member of the
House Judiciary Committee member/staff delegation currently
visiting several cities in the Far East. I left a message for
him to call me. I also plan to send him a short, informal note
to that effect. (Attached)
