Regarding this Matter
1. The attached letter from MITRE Corporation of McLean, Virginia,
summarizes actions that I took in the fall of 1985 regarding the subject
contract.
2. I had asked MITRE to write the attached letter at that time. I'm
sorry for the delay of this action. Per the reference, we agree that this is
an appropriate action as long as we have not exceeded the total value of the
contract.
3. Please let me know if you require further information or actions
regarding this item.

SUBJECT: Cancellation of Task 12 and Reallocation of
Resources for Task 8
IC staff
Per your request, this letter is to confirm to you that the task
identified as "Task 12 - SAFE DIA Requirements Analysis" will not be
started due to the significant delay that has been experienced in the
SAFE Project. This MITRE task was to be based upon the SAFE work that
has been delayed.
Per your guidance, the MITRE resources that were proposed for Task
12 have been expended on "Task 8 - FTD/CUI Development B-Type
Specifications." This additional technical effort was necessitated by
the unexpected changes in the CIRS architecture by two of CIRS
agencies. This effort was used to update and re-publish the Task 8
Report. A very low level of technical effort has been used for initial
contacts for performing NPIC Requirements Analysis. This change in
allocation of resources will not result in any additional cost to the
government.
None of these changes were caused by MITRE.
