SUBJECT: Letter to General Abrahamson
1. Action Required: Your signature is requested on the
attached letter naming as the CIA repre-
sentative to the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization.
2. General Abrahamson's letter grew out of informal
discussions on an agreement to provide a senior analyst. We
think will fill the bill nicely and that we can use
him to provide continuing feedback on the US SDI.

In response to your request of 26 March, I am pleased to assign
as the CIA representative to the Strategic
De tense Initiative Organization.
holds the rank of SIS-2 and is currently the Chairman
of the Joint Atomic Energy Intelligence Committee and is therefore
well acquainted with the technical intelligence community.
has held various management and analytical positions in the CIA since
1963. Prior to that served for four years as a senior intelli-
gence analyst in the Office of Naval Intelligence. His experience in
private industry includes six years of research with ESSO Research and
Engineering.
received his undergraduate and MS degrees at Georgia Tech,
pursued further studies in chemical engineering at MIT, and, as a Rhodes
Scholar, received his PhD in physics and chemistry from Oxford University
in 1953. He has also attended the National War College.
As you know I am committed to support the Strategic Defense Initiative
in any way I can and hope that this appointment will be of great benefit to
both of our organizations. I will make available for this
assignment as soon as arrangements can be arrived at between our staffs.
