The Honorable William J. Casey
Director
Central Intelligence Agency
Washington, D.C. 20505
Dear Mr. Casey:
On February 22, 1985, the Agency briefed the Committee on Foreign
Relations in closed session on "Trends in Soviet Strategic and Foreign
Policy."
The classification of the briefing was originally designated codeword
level and, as always in a briefing of this level, staff attendance was
limited. However, in the course of the meeting, it was noted that the
entire testimony of was not at the codeword level.
We would like to request that you make arrangements for this transcript
to be reviewed by the appropriate Agency personnel in the Committee's
Capitol office and that the portion which is not at the codeword level
be separated fran the rest of the transcript so that it may be made available
to properly cleared staff who would have been entitled to attend the
session.
It is important to us that this process be achieved in a timely
fashion and would appreciate consideration of this matter as soon as
possible. Please have your staff contact Barbara Allem, Chief Clerk
of the Committee, to make arrangements to review the transcript.
Sincerely,
Richard G. Lugar Claiborne Pell
