Mr. John N. McMahon
Deputy Director of Central Intelligence Agency
Washington, D.C. 20505
I am writing to invite you to a colloquium on "Intelligence
and Covert Action", on March 7. The colloquium panelists
will be Ambassador Robert W. Komer, Dr. Ray S. Cline and
Professor Ernest R. May. Ambassador Komer, as you know,
has served at the Department of State, The White House,
CIA and most recently at the Department of Defense as
Under Secretary for Policy. Mr. Cline, a senior associate
at the Georgetown Center for Strategic and International
Studies, was the Deputy Director for Intelligence during
the Kennedy Administration and later the Director of the
State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research.
Professor May, Charles Warren Professor of History at
Harvard, is author of many works on history and national
security, the most recent of which is his new book on
intelligence, Knowing One's Enemies. The Master of
Ceremonies will be Mr. John Bross, who has been a member
of the intelligence community since the days of OSS.
The colloquium is sponsored by the Richard S. Welch
Memorial Fund, which was established in his memory to
further studies and discussion of intelligence matters.
The fund is administered jointly by the John F. Kennedy
School of Government and the Center for International
Affairs. This event is being conducted in collaboration
with the Harvard Club of Washington.
We would be honored if you could attend. I thought you
would be interested in knowing about the event as a senior
member of the intelligence community.
