a most cordial
invitation to you to address a major dinner meeting of the Council
in your honor in the coming months. February or March would
be a particularly good time, but we will accomodate' to almost
any date your schedule would permit you to be with us in Southern
California. We would anticipate an audience of several hundred.
Naturally the choice of topic would be yours, focusing on aspects
of American intelligence efforts, which are of particular concern
to you and for which the American public needs increased awareness.
We have heard of your excellent and challenging presentation
in Dallas and hope you will share your insights with our Council
in Southern California.
Our Council, with a membership of more than 1,500 men and women
leaders in business, industry, academia and civic affairs, is
the premier forum in this region presenting distinguished speakers
on national and international topics.` Our administrative offices
are located at the University of California, Riverside. A brochure
describing World Affairs Council is enclosed.
I look forward to your reply, Mr. Casey, and I hope to be your
host in the near future.

World Affairs Council of Inland Southern California, with a
membership of more than 1,500 men and women leaders of business,
industry, academia and civic affairs, is the premier forum in
this region presenting distinguished speakers on national and
international issues.
The organization is nonpartisan and nonpolitical and does not
take positions, but rather seeks to present information on topics
of importance to Americans. The Council is similar to more
than 60 World Affairs Councils and other citizen education groups
around the United States, part of the network of the National
Council of World Affairs Organizations.
Membership area: An area with more than 1 million people, this
is one of the fastest growing regions in the United States. The
area extends from Claremont and Pomona, in eastern Los Angeles
County, through Riverside, San Bernardino and Redlands to Palm
Springs.
Transportation: The Council's office, at the University of
California, Riverside, is an hour's drive from downtown Los
Angeles and an hour and a half from Los Angeles International
Airport. Speakers frequently arrive at Ontario International
Airport, just 20 minutes from Riverside. Ontario is a one-hour
flight from San Francisco, and also has service direct from
Denver, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, St. Louis and other cities.
Council staff meet speakers at Ontario or Los Angeles and provide
all Southern California transportation.
Program format: The Council sponsors speakers at dinner meetings
or early evening receptions, and occasionally luncheons, conferences
and seminars. Programs are held in Riverside, Redlands, San
Bernardino, Claremont and other communities at convention centers,
hotels, or university conference rooms. Private receptions
with "opinion leaders" of the region are held for some speakers
in advance or following presentations to the large Council audience.
Other appointments: For speakers who wish additional audiences,
the Council can arrange meetings with college and high school
students and faculty, or coordinate with other Councils on the
t,c~st Coast.
Media: The same television and z H i_o neLworks L amy Los Angeles
operate in this region, which is also covered by the Los Angeles
Times, San Bernardino Sun, Riverside Press-Enterprise and many
other newspapers. Off-the-record editorial board meetings can
be arranged for speakers, when desired.
