SELECT COMMITTEE ON INTELLIGENCE
WASHINGTON, DC 20510
May 16, 1985
Dear Colleague:
The men and women of the Intelligence Community need
and deserve our support as they carry out their vital
assignments.
Budgetary and legislative support is crucial, of
course, but public declarations are important too, and they
can serve as real morale boosters. Please join me in
co-sponsoring the enclosed Resolution to designate the week
beginning June 6, 1985, "National Intelligence Community
Week" in honor of the men and women carrying out our nation's
intelligence efforts.
Kindly have your staff contact the Intelligence Committee's
Chief Clerk, Dot Roberson (4-1748), if you wish to be added
as a co-sponsor.
Sincerely,
Dave Durenberger
Chairman

IS t _- SESSION
IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES
Mr. DURENBERGER_
introduced the following joint resolution; which was read twice and referred to the Committee
on -td1~_~Lu~i ~ir~'_t- - --- --- ----------_
JOINT RESOLUTION
To designate the week of June 6, 1985, as "National Intelligence
Community Week".
Whereas the work of the men and women of the Intelligence
Community is essential to the national security of the
United States and to the cause of freedom and democracy
throughout the world;
Whereas the dedication of the men and women of the Intelligence
Community to the service of their country in difficult
and dangerous circumstances abroad, and in arduous intel-
lectually challenging analytical assignments at home, is
deserving of special recognition by the Senate and House
of Representatives of the United States;
Whereas efforts should be made to foster an understanding
and appreciation on the part of the American people that
intelligence is the first line of national defense and
that an effective intelligence capability is vital to the
safety and well being of the United States; and
Whereas it is particularly appropriate to recognize the
continuing contribution of our intelligence officers
during the week of the anniversary of the birth of Nathan
Hale, an early patriot, hero, and practitioner of
American intelligence, who symbolizes the selfless dedica-
tion of our nation's intelligence personnel: Now therefore,
be it
