SUBJECT Conference on "Europe in the Eighties."
1. Unless you foresee a probl em with i t, I pl are to t,eyi n
preparations to hold a conference of academics and government people on
the subject topic early next Spring. The agenda will call for a
prospective look at likely European internal and foreign developments and
trteir possible implications for the US. I hope that the meeting will
provide grist and inspiration fora number of research and estimative
projects i n ttie coming year or so. Al though the agenda i s riot yet
complete, it will include the following topics:
Europe's economic options
The security debate
Prospects for European cohesion and cooperation
West European relations with the USSR and Eastern Europe
Tire Atlantic connection
Europe and ttre third world, etc.
2. UU/EURA has agreed to contribute to the 25X1
conference, and I am certain that State/INR will cooperate in the venture
as well.
