The Director of Central Intelligence Was6inaton, D.C. 20505 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/08/19: CIA-RDP87R00529R000200140057-6 National Intelligence Council The Honorable Helmut Sonnenfeldt Guest Scholar Brookings Institution 1775 Massachusetts Avenue, Northwest Washington, D.C. 22336 Dear Hal: 12 January 1984 Just a brief note to confirm our expectation that you will be able to participate in the closing panel of our conference on Europe in the Eighties. You will see from the. attached agenda that the panel will follow Bob Osgood's presentation at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 6. Bob is supposed .to assess the implications of the conference's findings for US-European relations during the remainder of the decade. While you might be at some disadvantage in not having been present at earlier sessions, Bob's remarks are likely to be rather general. The agenda sheet will give you some idea of the other participants. As confirmations come in, we will add additional names to the list. And as we move closer to the conference date, State should advise you of administrative arrangements. Hope you enjoyed your sojourn in the sun. hlilton Kovner National Intelligence Officer for Western Europe Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/08/19: CIA-RDP87R00529R000200140057-6 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/08/19: CIA-RDP87R00529R000200140057-6 The Director of Central Intelligence Washington, D.C. 20505 National Intelligence Council Dr. William E. If you felt comfortable leading the discussion (a presentation of some 15-20 minutes) on West European attitudes toward the USSR and Eastern Europe, that would be splendid: Alternatively, you could serve as ore of our discussants for the entire session. A further option would be to participate in the concluding panel on Friday afternoon.
