SUBJECT : Proposed Agenda for the 14 December 1983 East Asia
Warning and Forecast Meeting
1. The monthly East Asia Warning and Forecast Meeting will be held on
Wednesday, 14 December 1983, at 1400 hours
2. Representatives should be prepared to discuss the topics listed below
and to suggest possible adjustments to collection requirements.
A. Forecast (projection six months ahead)
II. Korea -- Will North-South tension on the Korean Peninsula
be higher or lower by next summer? Will support for
cross-recognition be more or less evident? What effect
will team spirit and North Korean exercising have on
tensions? Will the Chinese continue to urge interest in a
Korean confederation? Discussion led by DIA.
B. Warning
Philippines -- Will Marcos gain or lose strength as a consequence
of the May election? Will the opposition participate? If so,
will they be more or less cohesive? Will debt re-scheduling help
economic recovery or are problems systemic? Discussion led by
