DIRECTOR, UNITED STATES INFORMATION AGENCY SUBJECT: Central American Economic Development Our recent discussion on Central American economic development underscored the scope and magnitude of the problems confronting us as we seek to improve regional security and economic prospects. I was encouraged by the range of imaginative ideas suggested at the meeting and urge each of you to give further thought to practical areas of assistance which your departments might be able to undertake within existing budget constraints. We have an important obligation to ensure that one of the legacies of this Administration is improved prospects for peace, democracy and economic progress for the people of Central America. I ask all of you to help in this task. Please let me have your comments before the end of June. Thank you. Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/06/11: CIA-RDP87T00759R000100090001-7
