T session with the briefings by the 25X1A8a terminated the 2. Colonel Lane was particularly interested in the functioning of the In project, report and source evaluations, and in Scientific intelligence and Support. He spent a great deal of time examining project evaluations and is learning about the flew of reports and especially how fast and how well we satisfy the requirements of our customers. 3. During the OIS briefing, Colonel Lane was striving to determine whether there vras any duplication of effort with that of OCD. The briefing specifically painted out that there was very little duplication. Nevertheless, Colonel Lane commented, "I realise that because of the setup, some duplication is inevitable -- but probably this is healthy." 4. Colonel Lane is intensely interested in Scientific Intelligence and Support. He remarked, believe Scientific Intelligence is of the greatest importance because it is imperative that we learn how the Russians are planning to hurt us." With regard to the program, he asked whether it would be possible to get more scientific intelligence and material if more funds were made available. He was pleased to learn that the Agency is doing as much as is feasible at the present time. 5. Colonel Lane was especially interested in "paper mills and the manner by which we inform and thus protect other agencies concerning any that we turn off. 6. Colonel Lane is taking very few notes, but continues to gather instructions, notices, aids and studies for future reading. Today we forwarded the following material as per his request: 25X1A9a a.
