Colonel Lane repeated in apparently similar but briefer terms the same assurances which he had given DD/P concerning his full aware- ness of the security problem. indicated in very short 25X1A9a outline form that his briefing of Colonel Lane would take up, one by one, the CS Policy Book, the CS General Plan, the Annual Country Programs, Operational Projects, and the process of Reporting. He showed Colonel Lane a map of Military Requirements for Clandestine Services Wartime 25X1A6a Action in 111.= and stated that Chief of the War Plans Division, would give a full description of the war planning 25X1C8a problem and procedure. 25X1A9a 3. Although this session was not long enough to give any substantial indication of Colonel Lane's interest and approach, there were at least brief suggestions of special interest in the following: a. A repeated indication of strong security consciousness including not only his ow* assurances of caution in this respect but also an interest in observing whether the personnel of this organisation are carefully and fully meeting their security obligations. He asked specifically whether the Clandestine Services have their own security personnel in addition to the staff of the CIA Security Office. 25X1X4 b. Colonel Lane mentioned that he had been in or arourd Munich at the time of the inception of and that, knowing something then about that organisation. he was especially Interested now in its character and effectiveness. c. Colonel Lane stated that, in his observation of Clandestine Services activities, he especially desired to see and observe the people who actually did the work and to do so in their own offices. Colonel Lane seemed surprised at the extent of the CS war planning orgaaisation, as very briefly indicated in this session, and especially at the fact that there are CIA war planning representatives actually in the staffs of the major military theater headquarters commands. 25X1A8a 4. It was agreed that would be the first of the detailed briefings for Colonel Lane on the Clandestine Services, and that from one to two days would be allowed, depending on Colonel Lane's wishes.
