SUBJECT: Automation Review - 5 September 1985
1. We can all be pleased with what appears to be an excellent
beginning to the Automation Contract. I was most impressed with LEC's
enthusiasm and commitment to the job. Even more important, however, is
the strong impression that we are well on the way to realizing a strong
government-contractor team.
2. While I have no criticism of the System Specification or LEC's
response to it, there are a few changes which must be investigated:
a. Provisions for soft copy delivery to customers (including
JPRS products with graphics);
b. Electronic delivery from JPRS (including graphics) to P$PD;
c. Identification of TBD classified terminals for the DI at HQS
d. An alternate mode of operation which provides for composi-
tion to be accomplished at P&PD.
It seems possible to assess, approve, and baseline these changes by the
November IDR.
3. In accordance with discussions with GSA we are committed to
providing an early Facility Requirements document. A GSA-managed
conversion of the 11th floor will proceed on a slow schedule at best.
Therefore, it is important that we begin ASAP. To that end please
provide C/E$PS a statement of facilities requirements by 1 October. I
understand it will not be our best effort and will have to be revised;
however, we must begin.
