I am pleased to report that we are about to update the FBIS History,
covering the period from the FBIS-FDD merger in 1967 through 1982. We
want this volume to focus less on chronology and more on the issues that
faced the FBIS leaders of the period and on how the leaders dealt with
those issues. It will be prepared primarily for the benefit of future
senior officers.
has been selected to do the necessary research,
including personal interviews with key senior officers of the period. At
the same time, he will be supporting an effort to compile a directorate
history.
In this connection, Dave will be in touch with you to solicit your
recollections of the issues, if you are agreeable. If you are inclined

some of the files.

FBIS and directorate management and, I am sure, by future senior officers.
Incidentally, I will be reminiscing a bit, too, after the calendar
turns. I have decided to retire on 3 January.
