DATE April 26, 1982 6:55 PM CITY Washington, DC SUBJECT McMahon to Replace Inman ROBERT MEANS: President Reagan will name a career CIA man to be the Agency's new Deputy Director. Mark Knoller has the story. MARK KNOLLER: The White House has confirmed reports that President Reagan is promoting John McMahon to the number two post at the CIA. He will succeed Admiral Bobby Ray Inman, who announced his retirement last week. McMahon is a 31-year veteran of the CIA and presently serves as the number three man at the Agency. His selection to succeed Inman is seen as an attempt by the White House to calm congressional concerns about Inman's departure. Some members of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Richard Lugar and Henry Jackson, to name two, feel that CIA Director William Casey needs an experienced deputy at his side. Jackson says McMahon is a first rate professional respected by members of Congress. OFFICES IN: WASHINGTON D.C, ? NEW YORK ? LOS ANGELES ? CHICAGO ? DETROIT ?
