JACKSON BAIN: Well, in just a short while someone in
Washington is going to have a lot more money to report on his
income tax next year. Tonight is the night they draw the million
dollar winner in the DC lottery.
Metromedia 5's Mary Norton is standing by to witness
that drawing. Mary?
MARY NORTON: Jackson, the excitement has been building
here at the Sheraton Washington all night long. The entertain-
ment side of the evening began about an hour ago but that big
drawing doesn't begin for at least a few more minutes. There are
20 finalists in all, and before the night is over two of them are
going to be millionaires. Earlier this evening I had a chance to
talk with some of the contestants about how they felt.
MAN: I'm very excited and I feel real happy about it.
Got a daughter getting married next week and the timing is
perfect.
NORTON: Do you think you're going to win, and have you
been lucky in the past?
MAN: I have never been lucky to the point of anything
this big, but I feel -- feel good about. Feel like something
good is about to happen.

NORTON: If you win, what are you going to do with the
WOMAN: Well, first of all I'm going to buy me a home,

buy my mom one, so I can get my grand babies back home with me.
'Cause I miss them.
NORTON: Tell me, do you play the lottery very often?
WOMAN: All the time.
NORTON: And have you won in the past?
WOMAN: Yes. I was the $1100 winner in the first game.
SECOND MAN: Well, I won $100 and then I was really
shocked when I heard my name. I was number five picked and I
didn't even realize I was even picked. My wife yelled out, it's
me, it's me, you know, and I ran up there and she followed on.
THIRD MAN: I think I'm going to win the million
dollars. I really believe it.

NORTON: And what would you do with the money if you got
THIRD MAN: Give some to charity. That's the main
thing, the Diabetic Association. And just do a lot of good with
it.
NORTON: As you heard, practically all the contestants
feel like they're going to be winners. We'll be staying with the
action tonight, and we'll be back later on in Metromedai News.
Maybe by then we'll have a winner.
BAIN: Okay. Thank you, Mary.
