PETER JENNINGS: It will be two years tomorrow since a
Turkish gunman tried to kill the Pope in St. Peter's Square. One
Vatican official said today the psychological effect on John Paul
has made him even more conservative, even more determined to get
his message across and not to compromise.
Well, since the shooting, there have been any number of
suggestions that somehow the Soviets had a hand in it. Tonight
on ABC's 20/20, the results of an ABC News investigation that
suggests there may never have been any Soviet connection at all.
