It is difficult to separate fact from fiction. When well-organized, professional anarchists set out to destroy a peaceful, orderly society, con- fusion is their strongest weapon. All thoughtful Americans know something must be done very soon. THE NEW "MORALITY" In some of our better-known newspapers, strange new customs have replaced the once highly respected and dependable editorial policies. *If you want your picture in certain papers, desecrate the flag. *If you would be on television, attack someone in high authority. ?Do not be for anything; be against everything. ?The more violence you generate, the most you can disturb the peace and tranquility of the community and the better your chance of widespread publicity (particularly if you use four-letter words). elf you can manage to steal some top secret government papers, you may everrbecome a national hero overnight. To bring these new "public habits" and other pertinent matters to the attention of all concerned citizens, to guarantee the public's right to know the real truth, and to protect and preserve the basic foundation and ideas of our society, we have organized American Cause. We believe American Cause, an effective, direct and positive movement to preserve an endangered America, has the answer. Our purpose is to form a bipartisan organization to restore and preserve the basic political philosophy and values which have made our country the envy of the entire world. Our broad aims, basic to America's survival and to the personal and economic well-being of all individuals, are: ?To preserve the Constitution and our Federal system of government; *To protect your individual rights to own and control property; ?To strengthen America's defenses against internal and external threats and enemies; ?To protect the Free Enterprise-Incentive system; *To reduce government intervention and regulation; -To research and disseminate facts so that our people may be well and fully informed; and *To once again unite Americans with the initiative and pride that created the American way of life. In short, American Cause is interested in all matters that pertain to the general welfare and is opposed to all programs and plans which may I~#1i10i~le f b1L%W 0001100-08 PGO RDP88-01314R000100010056-3 PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES: Research-We ha4PRc.@'gggoF?rvb%le*W-AAfglM$t~sf~`i-#W%-qll ll4p6g9?lR ~ORS56Tl eir findings, com- bined with our independent studies, enable us to identify and evaluate all aspects of public Issues. Where legitimate con- troversy exists, we do our utmost to present both viewpoints fairly and honestly. Newsletter-We provide our members with a concise, monthly publication which evaluates significant current issues and recommends various actions to be taken. We also print the stories which may not be considered newsworthy by the press. Speakers Bureau-We are organizing a speakers bureau to present eminently respected, articulate speakers at colleges and universities, community and religious gatherings, and other significant forums. Speech Writers-We are. enlisting a group of professional speech writers to help draft public papers for Members of Congress and members of our speakers bureau. Radio & Television-We have access to a daily nationwide radio report and will initiate radio and TV coverage of Execu- tive and Congressional Advisory Committee members in the near future. Specialist Groups-We have more than doubled the size of our bipartisan Congressional Advisory Committee and are in contact with news analysts, journalists and columnists, military experts, labor leaders, scientists, celebrities from the entertainment world, and members of the clergy. Also, we have communicated with the chief executive officers of the 500 top industrial corporations in the United States, urging them to use their annual reports, house organs, and all other means of communications available to them to emphasize the importance of the free enterprise-Incentive system. For the past several years our government, our institutions, our elected representatives, our respected citizens, our most successful industrialists; in short, our entire society has been under attack by a small, but well-organized minority who ap- pear to desire the destruction of our system of government. Led by some self-appointed liberal intellectuals and aided by leftist writers and some members of the press, this minority has set up a constant, continuing barrage of negative charges which are gradually misleading the people. The result is confusion, despair and great damage. The confidence, trust and respect for our elected representatives has been weakened. Faith in the future of our free society has been undermined, and a national sickness verging on chaos has resulted. This determination to destroy is only surpassed by the troublemaker's disregard for fact, their affinity for deceit, dis- tortion and an evil desire to disrupt our free institutions. HOW FREE IS THE MEDIA? This unhealthy situation is aided by some segments of the press who seem only to wish to report crime, violence, anti- government demonstrations, revolutionary activities, pornography and criticism of our society until it becomes almost a traumatic experience Q,rr r 8r ,~ ~~r ~~t E r~r~~ $ tab ~/~1? ~ ten denied the truth and deceived by bias is or ions or the negative approach.
