Atlas Magazine Due in Summer
The new Atlas magazine, which has been a digest of
news articles from around the world, will appear in the
late summer. This time around though it will be run by
former Time Inc. people instead of a former Newsweek
man.
The World Press Company, having sold the name,
publishing rights and subscription list on March 19 to the
Atlas Communications Company, filed in bankruptcy here
on Friday with assets of $14,143 and liabilities of $630,000.
It was a limited partnership and Malcolm Muir Jr.,
former executive editor of Newsweek, was general partner.
Putney Westerfield, former publisher of Fortune, is the new
Atlas publisher and John Willington is president. Cranston
Jones, once a senior editor on Time magazine, is editor.I
There are 145,000 subscribers to the 12-year-old maga-1
zinc, which began accepting advertising in 1967...,
