Mr. John A. Meyers

Time & Life Building

Dear Mr. Meyers,
13 APR 1979
This Agency is continuously seeking to upgrade the
technical procedures and art forms involved in presenting
printed intelligence analysis. We have achieved some
improvements in the speed of our operation, product appear-
ance and graphic illustrations. While these improvements
are encouraging, we believe we could do better by broaden-
in.g the experience of our first line supervisors who are
in charge of these activities. It would be particularly
useful to have them visit with their counterparts at major
publishing corporations.
-The production of TIME in many ways parallels the. kinds
of deadline publishing done by the Agency. It would be most
helpful to us if you would permit one of my supervisors to
visit for a day or two to discuss and observe the activities
of his counterpart(s) in your operation. We believe visits
with the chiefs of the art department, make-up department,
copy processing and copy desk would be the most useful.
I know your production schedule is very demanding and
we would not want to delay or interrupt it. Indeed, the value
to us would be to observe your normal routine. If this idea
seems. feasible to you, the details of a visit can be arranged
through our Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Herbert Hetu..
I look forward to hearing from you on this proposal..
Sincerely yours,
Stan:i-_?iel.cl Turner
