Bellows began his news-
paper career on the Colum-
bus (Ga.) Ledger, after
majoring in economics and
philosophy at Kenyon Col-
lege, of which he now is a
trustee. Subsequently, he
had various editorial as-
signments on the Atlanta
Journal and Constitution,
the Detroit Free Press and
the Miami News, where ha
was managing editor from
1959 to 1961.
Bellows' college educa-
tion was interrupted by
World War II, when he
served as a pilot in the
