Approved For Release 2005/01/12: CIA-RDP88-01315 OOb0 4- . , t/e NAVY LEAGUE OF THE UNITED STATES June 24, 1976 LGEN Vernon A. Walters, USA Deputy Director Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D.C. 20505 Dear General: E//xecr,Si+s~ _//~ z' try The observations you had to make to the Navy League Executive Committee in Albuquerque were by no means forgotten! At that time, Lew Taylor, from Lake County, Illinois, and president of the wavy League's Ninth Region, spoke to you about the possibility of your addressing a large Navy Day gathering in that area. He recently asked that I confirm his request, and ask if it would be possible to do so on the evening of October 15. We recognize that you probably will be retired by then -- al- ,--.3ugh I gather you aren't going to have your name put on the re- z.:-red list as early as you thought you would! - and will not have travel funds at your disposal. Accordingly, Taylor's Navy League council is prepared to defray all expenses, including the cost of transportation. Unfortunately, it is not in the position to pay an honorarium, so it is hoped you would given consideration to speaking on this occasion without same. I hope this engagement can be fitted into your plans, for what you have to say needs to be said, and in a lot more places than Lake County, Illinois. Still, saying it there will help. I'll look forward to receiving your ;reply soon. Sincerely, V. C. Thomas, Jr. Executive Director
