farmers' union
Withdrawal of Andrew Ross, the
Canadian ambassador to Chile,
.was demanded in a resolution
adopted at the fourth convention
of the National Farmers Union of
Canada held here.
The resolution was adopted
after the convention heard Hernan
'Ortega, a refugee from Chile,
who spoke, in place of Mrs. Hor-
tensia Allende.
It also called for a list of politi-
cal prisoners in Chile and for a
cessation of the murder and tor-
ture of prisoners of the Chile junta.
Another resolution urged the
outlawing of the U.S. Central
Intelligence Agency in Canada. It
accused the CIA of being "directly
involved in thwarting the demo-',
cratic efforts of the people of oth-
er countries."
"The CIA," it said, "has in the'
past been involved in directing
the social, economic and political
future of Canada" and -it demand-
ed "that all activities of the CIA
in Canada be rendered illegal by
legislation."
The main thrust of the conven-
tion was for controls over monop-
oly, inflation and profiteering.
Control of Canada's energy
resources was urged by Roy At-
kinson. who .was reelected- presi-
dent of the National Farmers
Union. He demanded that "we do
not allow our energy to be wasted
or exploited for the benefit of
others."
He also carted for nationaliza-
tion of the railroad system.
