SUBJECT' . Response to Letter to the DCI from Norwich Unlversi i
1. The President of Norwich University, Northfield, Vermont, Pas
invited the DCI to attend a meeting of the "Remote Sensing Group. o?'
Northern New England" on 16-17 September 1977, He also requested vat
an NPIC employee be made available to give
briefing to the group on satellite photography and remote sensing.
2. We have been in touch with the sponsors of the conference
at Norwich University and are told that the conference will be
attended by faculty members and state and local officials from the
Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and northern New York region. The pu
pose of the conference is to discuss civil uses of air photos and r??
mote sensing as it applies to various planning projects such as higi-
ways, urban development, land management, etc. Most of the faculty
members will be from geology and geography departments from such
school, as Dartmouth, Middlebury, 6owdoin, etc. One of the topics
of discussion will be government use of air photos in remote sensllrg.
3. We do not recommend that address this confer'3r c e .
We think that he might be faced with difficult questions concerninc
the classified satellite systems and their availability for public*
use. We would, however, make I I available to give a bria-
ing to the students at Norwich University on aerial photography, mils,
charts and CIA job opportunities. recently gave such
presentation to a group of students at the Her ert H. Lehman Collel(!
cf the City University of New York. The presentation was enthusi-
astically received. Attached is a report on that briefing which
was held in April 1977.

with Norwich University, we would be happy to do so.
