Dear Mr. Braverman,
Thank you for your inquiry of May 17. We regret the delay
in responding but you can understand that some research was
necessary.
I am forwarding a copy of General Donovan's farewell address
as you requested as wfll as the remark of the General's closest
associate and Deputy, and President Truman's letter
to General Donovan on his retirement, nclosure 1).
On your request for information pertaining to the role of
05S in Italy, and particularly for anecdotal material, references
provided as enclosure 2 should be helpful. For material on the
contributions of "Lucky" Luciano in Sicily, the references in
enclosure 3 should contain much of what you need. In this latter
regard, you may also wish to contact Otto C. Doering, Esq., of
Donovan, Leisure, Newton and Irving, 30 Rockefeller Plaza,
New York, N. Y. 10020. He was executive officer of OSS and
General Donovan's law partner.
I trust this information is responsive to your needs. If
we can be of further assistance please let us know.
Sincerely,
STA1f
