Approved For Release 20CIqUu VgMDP88-01315ROO0400260072-4 The Polish-American Bicentennial Ball, sponsored by the Polish Veterans Association and local Polonia organizations, will be held on October 16 at the Sheraton Park Hotel in Washington, D. C. This Bicentennial year, a new project deserves our support: the establishment of a Polish-American Heritage Center in the nation's capital commemorating the role which Polish-Americans have played in the development of the United States. The decision to establish the Center was made in coopera- tion with the Metropolitan Division of the Polish-American Congress and local Polonia organizations. Accordingly, eighty percent of the proceeds from the Ball will be donated to a fund for the Center and the other twenty percent will be used to continue the Association's support of needy Polish veterans. The Polish-American heritage Center will serve as a focal point for Americans of Polish descent through- out the U. S. Plans for the Center include a library where materials related to all facets of Polish- American life and history will be collected and made available to the public. For the benefit of both local organizations and visiting groups, we are also planning facilities for exhibits, lectures, conferences, social gatherings, and youth activities. We are inviting you to participate in our Bicentennial project by making a financial contribution. Though the initiative for the Center has come frbm Polish-Americans, we hope that all those who are interested in preserving the cultural traditions of ethnic groups will join us in a common effort. If your gift is received before September 21, your name will be printed in the Program of the Polish- American Bicentennial Ball and a copy sent to you. A golden-bound copy of the Program will be on permanent display at the library of the new Center. The enclosed Proclamation expresses our Bi- centennial spirit and will appear on the first page of the Program. Organizations, corporations and enterprises making a minimum contribution of $150.00 may reserve a page listing the name of the group and the names of its officers. Other members of that organization may have their names printed on the same page for an additional contribution of $25.00 each. A contribution of $50.00 entitles an individual to be included in the list of donors. Persons con- tributing $100.00 or more will be listed separately as patrons. We look forward to hearing from you very soon. President of the Polish Veterans Association: Mr. Waclaw H. Szczepanski Approved For Release 20 DP88-01315R000400260072-4 We Polish Americans join in the celebrations commemorating the two hundredth anniversary of the United States of America. As Americans, we identify ourselves with the principles that led to the establishment of the new Republic and that have helped to preserve a society based on the rule of law. We prize the tradition which has made the United States a refuge for the oppressed and the persecuted from all walks of life and from all parts of the globe. As Americans of Polish descent, we are pleased to recognize similarities between the United States Constitution and the Polish Constitution of Third May. We are proud that Polish patriots, such as General Tadeusz Kosciuszko and General Kasimir Pulaski, fought alongside General George Washington in the Revolutionary War. We are equally proud of the generations of unnamed Polish men and women who have un- hesitatingly dedicated themselves to the building and defense of this nation. Therefore, we wish to reaffirm in the Bicentennial year our allegiance to the United States and to thesacred human values and rights embodied in its Constitution. As always, we shall persist in our devotion to the cause of freedom, equality, and justice.
