DI REC'rOR
Dear Mr. Sorensen:
The dream of Camelot is not over. I am quite conyinc'd that: thousands of our young
people embrace many of the Arthurian concepts that marked the Kennedy years.
While today's high school seniors were in swaddling clothes when the tragic events
occurred in Dallas, many of them know, through your books and through their studies,
of the sensitive role you played in drafting the high ideals of the administration.
Thus, they will be looking for winds of change in your administration of your new
and great and global responsibilities.
On January 31, the U.S. Senate is bringing a group of brilliant young people to Wash"
ington to attend the 1977 Senate Youth Program. These students, two from each state
and D.C., were chosen by educators for their intelligence and leadership potential,
For one tightly scheduled week, these delegates will receive an intensive exposure
to the intricate mechanism of our governing system. The agenda calls for briefings
and talks with President Carter, senior Senators, and Cabinet and Department heads.
Based on surveys, we believe these students will not feel their week is complete with-
out some first-person exposure to the sensitive and vital role of the CIA.
Accordingly, I am most hopeful that: you can carve time from your pressured schedule to
meet with these young people on Tuesday, February 1, at 3:15 p?m. to give them 20 or
30 minutes of your time.
But, more to the point, I know you will give these leaders of tomorrow the kind of
message that will be meaningful and will be remembered..
The Trustees of the William Randolph Hearst Foundation have voted, for 15 consecutive
years, full funding of the week in Washington plus $1,500 scholarships for the student!
These Trustees join me in extending this invitation and in hoping you will help to
insure the Program's success by your participation.
Sincerely,
Approved For Release 2004/11/01: CIA-RDP88-Q4' R06040043
