SUBJECT: Visit of Senate Appropriations Defense Subcommittee to
Headquarters
1. Susan Shekmar, staffer for the Defense Subcommittee of
SAC, called yesterday to inform us that Chairman Stevens would
like to accept the Director's offer of breakfast and briefing on
Friday, 22 March at 8:00 a.m. We will be receiving information
on Members and staff attending and their available time shortly.
2. In earlier conversations Susan said Chairman Stevens had
been out for a briefing four or five years ago when briefers
covered the hot spots around the world, and that is what he
would like a ain. We also discussed the intelligence briefing
on Nicaragua , and they would like
that included if time permits.
3. Based on the questions raised by Senator Rudman at the
NFIP hearing. we should expect that he will want to hear more
about

SUBJECT: Visit of Senate Appropriations Defense Subcommittee to
Headquarters
In a conversation with Susan Shekmar, SAC Defense
Subcommittee, concerning the Stevens visit, she again suggested
a worldwide briefing of significant situations including both
intelligence and covert actions. She also urged that we use the
occasion to describe our capabilities and shortfalls. She also
asked if narcotics would be addressed. I told her I thought
both narcotics and terrorism would be addressed in the context
of geographical coverages.
