MEMORANDUM FOR:" Director of Public Affairs
FROM: Director of Central Intelligence
SUBJECT: Review of Manuscript
1. Here are two volumes on intelligence and other clandestine
activities in World War II beginning in Washington, moving to London
and then going through the war in Europe until its final culmination.
This is based on my own experience; discussions with all the surviving
liaison intelligence officers in the Allied services during World War II;
a report I did at the end of the war on the German operations; and the
documents which became available in the American and British archives.
This had the benefit of review and comment by the official and unofficial
historians for World War II in Britain, Holland, Belgium, Denmark and
Norway. It is a pure history covering the period running from 1942 through
the end of 1945, where it terminates.
2. I completed this manuscript at the end of 1979. William Morrow
and Company, book publisher, expressed, at the end of '79 or early '80,
the desire to publish it. When I took on the Reagan campaign at the end of
February 1980, I.set it aside because I knew I didn't have time to work
on any final edited requirements. .~illiam Morrow extended another offer.to
publish between the election and the inaugural and I have not decided
whether or not I want to publish at this time; however it should be
established that it is something I completed before becoming DCI. I am
submitting it to your office for clearance with the request that you review
it when you can do so comfortably.

William J. Casey
