C. 20505 8 October I981 The President The White House Washington, D.C. 20500 Dear Mr. President: I spent a little time over last weekend drawing together from. my American Revolution book the events at Saratoga and elsewhere which crystalized the decision in Paris to intervene. These few pages relate that and also earlier. French supply efforts and then go on through the convergence of Rochambeau's army from Newport, Washington's army from New Jersey, and Admiral de Grasse's fleet from the West Indies with the forces which Lafayette had brought to Virginia a few months earlier. I thought this might be interesting and possibly helpful in your preparation for the Yorktown celebration. Resp,tPully you, V Wlil l iam J.
