' MEh901?Ak'VDUh1 FOR: Director, National Forei gn Assessment Center FROM: Director of Central Intelligence SUBJECT: Policy - The Third World This piece by Daniel Pipes which came out of a book on the Third tJot~ld reminded me that there area lot of people in the policy community who would like to have the facts updated and brought together on Soviet forced labor camps and colonialism within the Soviet union. Tam reminded of this by the attached map of the forced labor camps which appears as a cover lining to a new.book on Stalin's secret war, against the people, during World War II, and particularly by this interesting article on Soviet Central Asia. I think this should be done in terms of Soviet vulnerability to a countep~attack against their campaign against the West. ~f--} William J. Casey 1 Attachments
