Approved For Release 2007/11/13: CIA-RDP88B00443RO01103940139-4 , Al, ) The Director of Central Intelligence Washington. D. 020505 27 January 1982 Dear John, First of all, let me congratulate you and extend my best wishes on your having turned octagenarian. This is a lot better than being a unitarian, a vegetarian and a whole host of like titles. Scoop Jackson had a luncheon at his home on Sunday for a number of people from Seattle who had travelled 6,000 miles to attend the Alfalfa dinner, including wives who were not allowed in the room With the Alfalfans. At the dinner, Sam Nunn turned out to be a rival of the new Al Haig whose one liners at recent public appearances indicate an ambition to take over Bob Hope's role in life. Walt Elder gave me a rundown on your talk with Scoop over the holiday and I found myself in general agreement with what he had to say. Now that the Congress is back I have before me a world-wide intelligence update for the two military and foreign relations committees, and then I have special activity updates for the two intelligence oversight com- mittees and testimony before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on the Wilson-Terpil affair. That experience goes back into the mid-seventies but there is great interest in where it indicates that there should be some tightening.. Looking forward to seeing you. Best regards. 7/, 14.;rl liam J. Casey The Honorable John A. McCone Approved For Release 2007/11/13: CIA-RDP88B00443RO01103940139-4
