rrnrT Approved For Release 2008/02/21: CIA-RDP88B00443R001304040078-8 2 February 1983 I would like to get a little beyond a mere cataloguing of Soviet military capabilities on both the conventional and strategic side in the worldwide briefing with emphasis on the significance of new or continuing Soviet increments in strength and deployment. For example, I would like to cover the significance of the Soviet naval deployment in the Pacific and the new conventional deployment discussed in today's editorial in The Wall Street Journal. Then also I would like to discuss the new tanks and artillery weapons and their form of deployment in Europe in relationship to and concern about our smart weapons, something about how they are designed to offset the Soviet tank superiority which we see gaining strength in equality and perhaps in numbers and how in turn these weapons would be threatened by the Soviet battlefield laser which we see coming on. Likewise, forward deployment, and quantative and qualitative aspects of Soviet and Warsaw Pact air power. I think I have the material for this with respect to the new strategic weapons and will do a first draft of that myself for Larry Gershwin to review. William J.
