Dear Mr. Casey:
The Subcommittee on Europe and the Middle East would like to have
three short closed-session briefings with Agency officers early in
the 99th Congress to provide background information on issues under
the subcommittee's jurisdiction.
We would like to set up seP ate sessions on: the Middle East
and Persian Calf; The Soviet Whion and Eastern Europe; and Westerner
Europe. The purpose of these meetings would be to provide members
with an overview assessment of key political, economic and military
trends, likely problems and status of regional conflicts.
We would like these sessions to be no more than one hour in
duration and thus would like the opening presentation not to exceed
20 minutes.
I would like your staff to contact Mike Van Dusen, who can be
reached at 225-3345, to set up these meetings. I look forward to
working with you in the 99th Congress.
