Subj: Critique of Midcareer Course
1. I appreciate the interest you take in training, and your
comments are always welcome. In fact, I am trying to encourage
the other Deputy Directors to play a more active role.
2. The Midcareer Course (MCC) is currently under review.
We have written an options paper which takes into account the
issues you raised in your memorandum. For example, we have
proposed cutting the MCC by one week, introd-acing a field trip,
and taking the participants out of town for+an additional week.

STAT is the action officer for the D~&T ), we intend to
present a proposal to you and the other Deputy Directors on
restructuring the MCC. We also intend to refocus the MCC and
provide for more student interaction and activity.
3. You are right about the presentations from the
Intelligence Community. They have always been weak. We think we
have found some ways to get the Community more on target, and
these changes are also incorporated in the options paper.
4. I agree that EEO is an important issue. According to
the instructors, issues related to EEO came up for discussion in
several meetings with senior Agency officers. I have asked the
MCC staff to look at what we are doing in the June running to
ensure that EEO receives ro er attention. I want to hold off' on
STAT using somebody like until we et t se through
STAT the review I mentione , w is means that would not be
included until the fall running.
