Approved For Release 2010/10/14 :CIA-RDP88G00186R000800940047-4 I~A lac", f gs'/7~~ ~ THE NATIONAL ART6 CLUB 16 ORAMERCV PARK ~OUTN NEW YORK, N.V. IOOOi May 23, 1985 Mr. Harry E. Fitzwater Deputy Director for Administration Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D.C. 20505 'T'hank you for inviting me to return to CIA Headquarters this past Wednesday. As you know, I first visited Headquarters in April of 1983, to install 19 of my bronze sculptures. Included in that exhibition was my over-life-size bronze bust of Vice President George Bush, which I had the great privilege of sculpting from life. I am most pleased that you are considering me to create a bronze statue of General Donovan for the .atrium of your new building. This is an extremely exciting project. The statue should, I believe, reflect the character and importance of the agency. With your guidance, I am confident that I can create a bronze that we are all justifiably proud of. The cost of delivering to site a bronze statue 6z-7 feet tall, inclusive of all costs up to and including deli~trery, and the ,cost of supervising installation of the base, statue, and bronze plaque, is $95,000. The costs of a granite base and its delivery, and installation of the base and statue, will be billed directly by the contractor of your choice to the agency. I' can supply a list of possible contractors and costs; coordination with your building architects is advisable. Dependent upon the type of granite chosen and the size of the base, T estimate these costs to be between $6,000 and $12,000. Similarly, the cost of delivering to site a bronze statue 9-92 feet tall, inclusive of all costs up to and including delivery, and the cost of supervising installation of the 6a~e, statue, and bronze plaque, is $140,000. Again, the costs of a granite base and its delivery, and installation of the base and statue, will be billed directly by the contractor of your choice to the agency. Dependent upon the type of granite and the size of the base, I estimate these costs to be between $9,000 and $18,000. I welcome your suggestions as to modifications. I am looking forward to your response, and hope to be able to serve the agency and the nation through this important project. Sincerely yours, C~l~ ~~ Marc Richard Mellon, Sculptor Approved For Release 2010/10/14 :CIA-RDP88G00186R000800940047-4 Approved For Release 2010/10/14 :CIA-RDP88G00186R000800940047-4 OVER-LIFE-SIZE STATUE IN BRONZE OF GENERAL DONOVAN 1.
