Vice Admiral Powell F. Carter, Jr., the Director-designate of the Joint
Staff at DOD, is scheduled to visit CIA on 17 June for the purpose of
receiving a general Agency orientation. His biographic sketch is attached.
VADM Carter has a limited background in intelligence, but will have a DIA
briefing under his belt by then. EXDIR will kick off the visit with lunch in
the EDR, and Directorate briefings will follow. Would like to know:
- If DD or A/DD wishes to join EXDIR at lunch.
- How, and at what level, you would like to handle your portion of the
briefing (e.g., we can get a conference room or route guest from one
Directorate to another). We suggest form over substance in the
briefing, with emphasis on DOD connection. About a 30-45 minute
overview from each directorate should be sufficient.
For SA/DDO: Gave DD/PCS a heads-up on this. He volunteered to arrange
the DO portion, assuming you concur.
- What clearances beyond TS/SI/TK, if any, our guest will need.
Please just call me by 13 June with your preferences. I'll piece
together an itinerary and ship it right back.
