Security Affairs, 16 January 1986
1. You are scheduled to meet with Admiral Poindexter at 1700 hours
on 16 January 1986.
2. The NSC Staff offered no agenda items. The following are items
you may wish to raise:
NO TAB Leaks. You may wish to review with Adm. Poindexter your
meeting this week with the Attorney General re the subject
of leaks.
NO TAB Budget. You may wish to follow up on last week's
discus ions re the budget.
TAB A PDRY Coup. This TAB contains talking points from Graham
Fuller re the attempted pro-Soviet coup in South Yemen.
TAB B Libya. This TAB contains the following:
(1) An item from NIO/CT for the NIC Threat Outlook re the
subject of Libyan-backed terrorists.
(2) Talking points from NIO/CT on the general subject of
Libyan support for international terrorism.
(3) Talking points from DI/NESA re the subject of
Qadhafi's intentions in Chad.
(4) Talking points from DI/NESA re Libya's new SA-5s.

NIO meeting warning of the growing possibility
of an Israeli-Syria mi nary clash and your request that he
get something together on this for a quick dissem around
the Comunity. At this TAB you will find a memo on this

this week's NIU o0 on the "Syrian-Israeli Military
Capabilities Gap."
TAB D The Philippines. At this TAB are talking points from
MEA providing an update on the Philippine SNAP
election. Among other things Carl notes that the trend of
events in the upcoming elections suggests that the results
could lead to more, not less instability and increase the
complications of U.S.-Philippines relations.
TAB E Afghanistan. You may wish to review with Adm. Poindexter
your upcoming trip.
