PRESIDENT'S L 1 730X
COMMISSION ON WHITE HOUSE FELLOWSHIPS
THE WHITE HOUSE
April 21, 1986 *?s~ `
The Honorable William J. Casey
Director
Central Intelligence Agency
Washington, D.C. 20505
On May 18, 1986, the President's Commission on White House
Fellowships will select the twenty-second class of White House
Fellows. This group of thirteen to nineteen outstanding young
Americans--selected from among 585 applicants nationwide--will
begin their Fellowship assignments on September 1. As you may
know, Fellows serve as Special Assistants to members of the
President's White House staff, to the Vice President, to Members
of the Cabinet or to agency heads.
On behalf of the Commission, I am writing to ask that you
consider selecting one of the 1986-87 class of White House
Fellows to serve as your Special Assistant. If you are
interested, we will provide you with files on the newly-selected
Fellows, and will offer you the opportunity to interview the
candidates who interest you during the week of June 15.
The work assignment is the focus of the White House
Fellowships. All other aspects of the program are secondary.
The Fellows take part in an education program which includes
twice-weekly seminars and occasional domestic and foreign
travel. The Fellows' work assignments, however, take priority,
and nothing should interfere with a Fellow's participating as a
full and productive member of your staff.
President Reagan is the fifth President since 1964 to
endorse the White House Fellowships, calling the Fellows
"valuable assets to the senior officials to whom they have been
assigned." I enclose a list of White House Fellows who have
served throughout the Reagan Administration sice 1981, as well
as a copy of our brochure.
If you are interested in selecting a Fellow for the
Fellowship year beginning September 1, please let me know who on
your staff you would like to work with us to review applications
and schedule interviews. I will then give that individual a set
of files on the new Fellows after they have been announced the
week of May 19. I would, of course be delighted to meet with

you or your staff to discuss the candidates or any aspect of the
program. Please feel free to call me at 395-4522.
Looking forward to hearing from you, I am,
Sincerely,
Catherine V. Barr
Acting Director
