I am pleased to send greetings to everyone, both
individuals and groups, taking part in the Government
Computer Expo '86. Please convey my greetings as
well to the 100 , 000 and more Federal, State and local
government personnel your organizations represent.
Every schoolchild knows that computers are changing
the face of America, its industries, the professional
and private lives of its citizens, and, of course,
government institutions at every level. Eecause
computer technology is sprinting ahead at dizzying
speed, thanks largely to advancing computer tech-
nology, it is essential that those who need computers to
carry out their work keep abreast of developments and
innovations. This is especially true in government,
where the conduct of business involves the public trust
and demands a high level of efficiency and reliability.
I am very happy, therefore, that organizations like
the Federation of Government Information Processing
Councils, the Information Resources Administration
Councils, the National Association for State Information
Systems, and the Graduate School of the Department
of Agriculture are taking such an active interest in
Government Computer Expo '86.
Nancy joins me in wishing you a constructive,
informative, and enjoyable session. God bless you.
