Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/10/19: CIA-RDP88M00338R000100090014-6 Central Intelligence Agency Office of the Deputy Director for Intelligence DDI- C? 4-3o? Xh~- 16 September 1986 NOTE FOR: Director of Central Intelligence Deputy Director of Central Intelligence You occasionally ask what support we've provided to the military. While we do provide a lot of day-to-day support, we do not often get explicit feedback on how this support affects US military programs. The attached is a notable exception. Gordon likes to point out to me that it is often in these tactical areas where we can have the greatest monetary impact, although it often doesn't get the same attention as our strategic efforts. (U) We reviewed an advanced copy of the document, Soviet Foxhound A Flash Dance Radar. On behalf of the Air Force, I commend your organization for producing such a superb product. It is a timely and valuable contribu- tion to the warfighting capability of our combat aircraft. 2. (S) Every EC jamming system in acquisition will be affected by the critical information in your document. The data is our best source for developing accurate ground and airborne simulators of the Foxhound A. These simulators, representing a $75 million acquisition program, will be our best avenue for designing and testing electronic jamming techniques to counter the Foxhound A. Programs investing over $225 million into our combat aircraft EC systems will incorporate jamming techniques developed from information in your document. 3. (U) Please pass my personal thanks and appreciation to your people for providing a document, which will have such a positive influence on the Air Force Electronic Combat mission. JdRN A.
