Ray Director of Logistics SUBJECT: Report of Significant Logistics Act~v11t1fs for the Period Ending 17 September 1986 1. Events of Major Interest That Have Occurred During the Prece ing Wee : a. In response to the Directorate of Administration (DDA) Planning Officer's inquiry, the Office of Logistics (OL) completed a survey of contracting activity identifying examples of support to the U.S. military. This survey indicated that a significant portion of the Agency's contracting activity (particularly in the Directorate of Science and Technology's contract teams) is in support of Department of Defense requirements. b. In response to a DDA Management Staff request, OL is coordinating a review of the New Building Support Budget for FY 88 and the outyears. This task is in response to a Congressional .request that the entire New Building Support gram be reviewed to c. Resurfacing of the north lot at Headquarters began on 15 September. OL advises that lanes A through C will be blocked off for about three weeks to permit removal of islands, the illation of new light fixtures, and the resurfacing of the lot. d. OL reports that the temporary guardpost at the George Washington Memorial Parkway gate was erected in preparation for construction of the New Security Control Center. Excavation for footings will begin the last week in September for the new structure. e. Installation of the exterior curtain wall glass on the New Headquarters Building was started this week. Upon completion of this segment, scheduled for November, OL reports the center and north sections will be sealed from the weather. Several meetings have been held recently to discuss a potential. problem on the north pent of of the New Headquarters Building (NHB). Some of the metal o for the roof has developed a rust-colored coating and some ot the copper tape used on the seams has deteriorated due to weather damage. Representatives of OL, General Services Administration, Office of Security, Office of Information Technology (OIT), and Atlantic Research Corporation (OIT's segment contractor), developed solutions contractor has been directed to implement these g. Dewberry and Davis, the architects for Routes 123/193 redesign, agreed to schedule a dry run for OL of a briefing for the Evermay Community. The briefing wi r the specific design of Section 7 of the Evermay community. i+ +-_ 7 h. The Building experienced a power outage on 8 September at &. due to a broken overhead line serving the facility. At that time, it was discovered that the emergenc 'I generator had not started, necessitating dismissal of most Building employees. Power was restored by the Virgnia Power Company by the close of business and OL made repairs to the emergency generator. i. OL reports that in support of the OIT Secure Grid, Contel has started conduit installation for the New Building Communications Program Office, OIT, in the 2D and 2C corridors of the Headquarters building. With the exception of B corridor, all corridor ceilings on thn cnrnnil floor will be lowered to permit the conduit installation. j. OL representatives met with representatives of Gates, Hudson $ Associates on 15 September. The purpose of the meeting was to provide a schedule for removing asbestos in ]Building. A contract has been awarded and work is scheduled to start the week of 29 September. The work will be done in phases, with the basement being first and the first floor to be done in two sections. The contract has an incentive fee of $2,000 per dampletion before the scheduled date of 15 January 1987. r. OL has solicited quotati ns for lease an i tallation of a temporary security fence around7 ~ The fencing will encompass the buildings an rout parcing areas during construction and will subsequence a removed. Installation is anticipated by 30 September.
