Weekly Report for Period Ending 7 November 1986
3. OIT opened the Personal Computer Software Center to a VIP audience on
3 November. The Center provides Agency employees a central place for
purchasing and registering PC software and receiving assistance in using the
software. The Office of Training and Education (OTE) is also offering one-day
workshops on using the available software.
4. The Office of Training and E ucation (OTE) presented the Professional
Development Course from 21 to 31 October for 45 secretaries,
operational support assistants and contractors. A one-week secretarial
training program will also be provided to personnel.
Participants earn credit for three required courses in the Secretarial
Training Program.
5. On 3 November Gregory Guroff of the United States Information Agency
(USIA) addressed the Soviet Foreign Policy Block on "Why Russians Behave Like
Russians." Guroff is Deputy Director of Coordination of the President's
U.S.-Soviet Exchange Initiative and served as Cultural Attache in Moscow
during 1982. In a wide-ranging discussion, Guroff addressed the role of
ideology, the legitimacy in the regime, concerns about SDI, and the state of
the Russian Orthodoxy today.

12. Three Agency representatives, two from the Directorate of
Administration (DA) and one from the Directorate of Operations (DO), are
observers on a new Armed Forces Courier Service (ARFCOS) Policy Committee

15. On 3 November members from the New Building Project Office escorted
Mr. Robert Weinman through the New Headquarters Building. Mr. Weinman is a
potential sculptor for a statue of General Donovan.
16. Messrs. Ronald Carpenter and Al Boudreau, a House Appropriations
Committee Survey and Investigations team, will be conducting an investigation
of Agency property holdings over the next three to four months. OL will serve
as the focal point for their efforts.
17. The special 1,000th issue of the trade paper, COMPUTERWORLD,
published this week carried a statement by the DCI on the Agency's progressive
utilization of computers. A CIA recruitment ad appeared in the same issue.
20. Two days of heavy protests and anti-protests faced our
recruiters at the University of Minnesota. Fortunately, all students on the
interview schedule were able to keep their appointments, thanks to the
outstanding support of the Campus and Metro police.
21. The Summer Fellows Program has received a very positive response from
the Directorates. Of the original candidates,l have been selected for
additional screening/evaluation prior to offering summer employment. This
represents the highest number to be reviewed since the program's inception
