1. (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: AN SS-17 ICBM FAILED DURING THE VERY EARLY
STAGES OF FLIGHT FROM TYURATAM ICBM LAUNCH TEST SITE V8.
2. (S/D) REMARKS: THE MISSILE'S FAILURE IS INDICATED BY AN IMPACT
AREA AND URGE BURN MARK APPROXIMATELY 2,000 FEET NORTH OF
THE LAUNCH SITE. AN SS-17 LAUNCH ASSIST DEVICE (LAD) IS
ENT ON
BETWEEN THE SITE SECURITY FENCES. THE LAD WAS NOT PRES

VEHICLE, ARE ON THE APRON NEAR THE OPEN SILO DOOR. NO DAMAGE
IS DISCERNIBLE TO THE LAUNCH SILO.
