1. (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: A SECOND 30-METER DISH HAS BEEN INSTALLED
AT THIS CHINESE FACILITY FOR INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS.
2. (S/D) REMARKS: A SECOND PARABOLIC DISH ANTENNA HAS BEEN
INSTALLED ON A PEDESTAL AT BEIJING INTELSAT STATION 1. THE
ANTENNA APPEARS TO BE SIMILAR IN SIZE TO THE OTHER 30-METER
PARABOLIC DISH JUST NORTH OF THIS NEW DISH. THE PEDESTAL FOR
THE ANTENNA WAS REPORTED UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN JANUARY 1981 AND
THE CONTROL BUILDING, ALSO UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN JANUARY 1982,
HAS BEEN COMPLETED.
(S/D) THE OTHER INTELSAT FACILITY (NOT ON GRAPHIC) IN THE
BEIJING AREA, BEIJING INTELSAT STATION 2
APPROXIMATELY 2 NH NORTH OF INTELSAT STATION 1 STILL HAS ONLY
THE ONE 30-METER PARABOLIC DISH ANTENNA.
(S/D) CONSTRUCTION BEGAN IN THE EARLY PART OF 1973 FOR BOTH OF
THESE STATIONS, WHICH WERE PURCHASED FROM THE UNITED STATES.
THEY ARE USED FOR INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS.
