1. (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: TANKS WITH CAMOUFLAGE PAINT SCHEMES ARE
NOT NORMALLY SEEN-IN CHINA.
2. (S/D) REMARKS: AT LEAST 72 CAMOUFLAGE-PAINTED TYPE-59/69
MEDIUM KS ARE IN THE SHIPPING AND STORAGE AREA OF BAOTOU
ARMORED VEHICLE PLANT 617. CAMOUFLAGE PAINTING ON TANKS
NORMALLY IS NOT SEEN AT THIS PLANT OR WITH CHINESE GROUND
FORCES. THE CURRENT COUNT REPRESENTS A SLIGHT DECREASE FROM
WHEN 83 PROBABLE TYPE-59/69 TANKS WERE PRESENT.
IT COULD NOT BE DETERMINED AT THAT TIME IF THE TANKS HAD A
CAMOUFLAGE PAINT SCHEME. THE DESTINATION OF THESE TANKS CANNOT
BE DETERMINED AT THIS TIME.
BAOTOU ARMORED VEHICLE PLANT 617, 7 NM NORTHWEST OF BAOTOU, IS
IN THE PEKING MILITARY DISTRICT. ,
